Game 5, April 8th 2009 (Koshien)

Hanshin Tigers vs. Hiroshima Carp

Kanemoto’s Day

CARP 0  0  1  1  0  0  0  0  0  2

TIGERS 3  0  3  0  1  0  1  0  x  8

After yesterday’s entertainment I expected today’s game to be somewhat low-key. In its way it was- the result was never in doubt, unlike yesterday’s nail-biter. Shimoyanagi played well, largely containing the Hiroshima top line up (Kurihara got a scoring base hit), and Arai got off the mark with a home run and a two base-hit- in fact the entire team was fine- but all, ALL of the plaudits should and will go to Tomoaki Kanemoto for this win. He was at bat four times- the first was in the first innings, where he hit a three run home run. Then again, in the third, a two run home run. Then again, in the fifth, a single run home run. In the seventh he hit a base hit, and send a runner home to add another run to the score. All in all he batted in 7 of Hanshin’s 8 runs. Simply, fantastically, amazing.

Team Notes: Kanoh back in for Okazaki, Arai off the mark with a home run and a two base hit, Watanabe as relief.

Pitchers: Shimoyanagi -> Watanabe -> Abe

Man of the Match: Tomoaki “Aniki” Kanemoto
