Game 11, April 16th 2009 (Koshien)
Hanshin Tigers 4 Chunichi Dragons 3
After five games without a win Hanshin got back on track tonight with a 4-3 victory over the Chunichi Dragons at Koshien. A two run homer from Toritani in the first put the Tigers up, while solo homers from Ibata and Morino in the fourth and sixth respectively brought the Dragons back into the game. It was then, at the top of the seventh, that Mayumi finally saw sense, dropped his 7-innings starter policy that had lost us the previous night’s game, and brought in the relief. Overall Kubo had a good game, but it was time for a change and Atchison came in and did his job very well – 2 innings, 25 pitches, 3 strike-outs. At the bottom of the seventh Hanshin went 4-2 up, with base and two-base hits from Toritani and Kanemoto pushing the runners round. The ninth- which began with Fujikawa looking typically in control, surprisingly saw Wada score a homer, but the result was ultimately beyond doubt- Fujikawa got the last two outs to secure the game for the Tigers. To top it all, Yomiuri lost!
Starting Team: Same as yesterday, except Okazaki (Ca) and Kubo (P) in.
Man of the Match: Takashi Toritani
Player Comments: Good work from the top of the order (except Akahoshi who hasn’t been himself lately), slow from Arai once again and non-existent from Mench. Kubo had a good game, Atchison looked sharp- quality relief- and Fujikawa got us through in the end. Okazaki did ok, but Kano should be first choice.
