In Japan it’s Golden Week– in Korea, unfortunately just the weekend. Still, amidst the joys of Birmingham getting promoted to the Premier League, and the sorrows of Hanshin losing twice to the Yomiuri Giants (we did win the third game though), I went to the wedding of a friend, and then down south to Gyeongju.
The visit to Gyeongju was very relaxing- the first day I walked around the peculiarly shaped tombs of ancient Shilla kings, and then napped before chilling at the hostel with other random travellers. The next day, armed with some chocolate digestives, cheese and dried meat, I rented a bike, and cycled over 20km around the local area, visiting the artifical Lake Bomun, and the temple “Bulguksa”. It was very tiring, but enjoyable. I did burn myself in the sun though! Then I had a couple of well earned beers on the KTX back to Seoul.
