Life has interfered with Hanshin updates, which have been pretty thin on the ground recently. Apologies. We’ve stumbled along, until a 2-1 series loss away at Yokohama made things look pretty bad (worse than normal). Still, we’re on the verge of a 2-1 victory against the Carp at home tonight- though still to whitewash ANY team in a 3 game series.
Tonight’s (hopefully a) victory was down to hits from all over the field, as well as solid pitching from Andoh. It was a hit-fest, with 12 in the first 7 innings, 3 apiece for the highly promising Sakurai and underrated (by Mayumi) Hirano, and 2 and a walk for Arai (who’s form is more up and down that an exciting corporate sponsored fairground ride in USJ).
Next tuesday the Kouryuusen (交流戦) or Inter-League spell, begins. This will be a good chance for me to introduce some of the Pacific League teams to this blog, as well as explain and discuss a difference in rules that splits baseball in American and Japan down the middle- the “Designated Hitter” rule.
