Hanshin have now won four- yes four- games in a row, something that hasn’t happened for a seriously long time. Are we turning the corner? Is Mayumi coming good? On both counts its too early to say, but there is certainly cause for optimism.

Yesterday, while I was watching the Woori Heroes beat the LG Twins in Mokdong, Hanshin gave the Orix Buffaloes a good kicking, getting a two game whitewash. The end score was 7-0, and the hero of the day was Fukuhara who completed a shutout, as well as getting two RBIs! Kanoh also got 3 hits from 4, and is an early frontrunner for player of the season.

Then today, while I was watching South Korean film Mother at Yogsan CGV (they’ve released the movie with English subtitles in a few locations- a very welcome move), Hanshin beat the Softbank Hawks 4-3.

From the look of things (head on over to the HT official website for the stats), it was a deserved, if tense, victory. In the first Kanemoto, Arai and Brazelle all got hits to give us a 2-run lead. This was pulled back in the second with a 2-run homer off starter Nohmi. Softbank were put into the lead in the 7th with a solo home run, but Hanshin completed a dramatic comeback in the ninth! Lin and Toritani both got hits, Hiyama was walked to load the bases, and with one out Kanemoto hit a 2-run RBI to give us the sayonara victory. Of particular note in this game was Toritani getting a hit when it counted, and new signing Brazelle getting 3 hits from 4- he’s looking like everything we’d wanted from Mench, and his arrival could be the catalyst for a dramatic turnaround.

Tomorrow we take on Softbank again!
