Tigers 3 Yakult Swallows 8 (Game 1)

(Koshien Stadium)

Preview: We need a win, after two defeats to the Giants. Simple as that. In other news, Kanoh has been demoted to ni-gun, as the Tigers coaching staff think we can function with two catchers. I’d agree, but argue- despite his hit two games ago against Kyojin- that Yano should be the one to go. Doesn’t seem fair on our star player of last season, but that’s the wild and simple incomprehensible world of the Hanshin Tigers. Today’s starter is Andoh.

安藤 優也

Andoh has been with the Tigers for three years, with last season’s EPA as 3.90.

He is 33, and very stern.

So far he is (somehow) 1-0 with an EPA of 7.56, and hasn’t had the greatest of starts to the  season. Mind you, neither have the Tigers.

Team Lineup (in batting order):

1. Murton (C)
2. Hirano (2)
3. Toritani (SS)
4. Kanemoto (L)
5. Arai (3)
6. Johjima (Ca)
7. Brazell (1)
8. Fujikawa (R)
9. Andoh (P)

Battery: Andoh> Tsutsui -> Messenger -> / Johjima

Game: Oh dear. I can’t bring myself to write a full report, such was the disastrous calamity that was this match. Everything fell apart- we had chances early on to establish a large lead, but could only manage 2-1. Then poor pitching by Andoh, Tsutsui, and Messenger combined to hand us an 8-3 deficit by the eighth. The crowd was audibly restless, Mayumi looked absolutely clueless on the bench – disaster has definitely struck. Where next? I don’t know. After a promising start to the season, everything seems to be going the way of last season…
