Despite the (rather obsessive) focus of this blog on Hanshin Tigers and Japanese baseball, my first sporting love is Birmingham City FC. Today was the last round of games of the 2010 Premier League season, and we finished a historic 9th in the top flight, with 50 points.
Although we’ve faltered towards the end, it’s been an excellent season, with brilliant performances from our “old guard” (Bowyer, Carr, Ferguson) and our defence (Ridgewell, Johnson, Dann, Hart). Next season we’ll want to improve our goals tally, especially from the strikers, as well as maybe investing in a new creative midfielder. But it really has been a fantastic season- unbeaten at home against Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Man City…the list goes on. The only blot on our season was the two defeats to the Vile (Aston Villa), something we need to rectify next season. Anyway, well done to the boys in royal blue!
