Matt Murton today became only the 4th player to achieve 200 hits in a season. It comes in his first season with the Hanshin Tigers, and caps a truly remarkable season for himself. Hopefully we’ll hang on to Matt for a long time to come. The other players to achieve this record are Ichiro, Aoki and Ramirez.
In other good news, Hanshin won today’s third and final game against the Chunichi Dragons 5-1 thanks to some excellent pitching by Nohmi. As I said before, with Nohmi, Kubo, Akiyama and Standridge on our books we have the potential for a top class pitching line-up, if groomed right by Mayumi and the backroom staff.
Still, this season’s championship hopes are hanging by a thread. We need to win 5 of our 7 extra games to draw level with Chunichi, although they still have 2 games to play. 2 of our 7 games come against the Yomiuri Giants. Time will tell, but its looking like a difficult task at the moment, and in hindsight it may well be yesterday’s 9th inning 1-0 loss that becomes the moment the Championship was won. I hope this isn’t the case though!
