A movie about a slow meander through Tokyo’s more and less well known suburbs delivers by walking the tightrope between humour and comic timing, and moving and well acted scenes of sincerity.
The central premise is that debt collector Fukuhara has promised Fumiya that he will get rid of his debts and give him 1 million yen if he walks around Tokyo with him before he turns himself in for accidentally killing his wife.
As the walk begins, we get to know the main characters, meet an oddball cast of extras, and get sucked into the story. The film delivers more than expected – heart warming without being overly sentimental, funny without losing any of the drama, and well acted by the two leads. ★★★★
