Today is was about the pitching. Standridge pitched excellently for seven innings, Kobayashi took care of the eighth, and Kyuji the ninth. If (and it’s a big if) we do win the League this season, it will be down to a more consistent pitching performance than last season. Things certainly look good on paper – Nohmi, Standridge and Iwata are an excellent starting three, and Kobayashi, Kubota and Fujikawa look like a settled relief effort. The gaps will be filled in as things go along, but today was a sign of how we can win when our offence isn’t on top form but our defence is.
